The Story
of DMB

A Passion for Great Places

For more than 40 years, DMB has crafted communities that celebrate their one-of-a-kind settings and enrich the way people live. From the lush south shore of Kauai and the wildlife-filled waterways of the California Delta to the snow-capped peaks of Utah and the high desert of Arizona, DMB’s best-in-class communities embrace the local land and culture to create joyous living environments where epic moments and lasting memories are made.
  • A Commitment to Community

DMB’s primary mission is to create the best places to live, work, and enjoy time with family and friends. We are driven to make places that are more thoughtful, imaginative, ecological, and inspiring. While spectacular in setting and sophisticated in design, our communities truly distinguish themselves as beautiful places where amazing lives are lived, where incredible experiences take place, and where connections are made and grow stronger over time.

  • A Singular Approach

No two DMB communities are the same. Every location is unique, and each requires a distinct and creative approach that considers the local environment, culture, and the future community. Our first step for each development is to fall in love with the location. We get intricately attached to every setting to learn what’s special about it and how we can create a community that could exist only in that area—and represent the very best of its landscape, history and culture.

  • A Vision to Take the Long View

Our commitment to each community begins long before the first lot is sold and extends well after the final home is built. Our top priority is the happiness of the people who call our developments home now and in the future, and we know that the decisions we make today will affect the communities for generations. That means taking the long view for every community we create.

Each development we build requires countless decisions, and each decision has to respect nature, the land, and the surrounding community. By building with the long-term health and happiness of the greater community in mind, DMB creates active, engaged, and authentic environments that live well over time. Our developments evolve into legacy communities that grow in value and ensure that our residents can get the most out of life.

  • A Fundamental Belief in Partnership

Every DMB community is guided by our company’s core values—profitpartnershiplegacy, and fun–and rooted in our history of collaboration and success. The business of developing a DMB community is bigger than any one of us. It requires an orchestra of creative, technical, legal, and political talents and expertise brought together in a coordinated, impassioned effort to create something special. We could not be successful without the trusting and lasting partnerships we’ve built with landowners, communities, and city officials. By working with others, we strengthen our ability to create joyous places to live that are meaningfully connected to the greater community and deliver the best results for our partners.

The DMB History

DMB was founded in 1984 by Drew Brown, Mark Sklar, and Bennett Dorrance. In the years since, we have formed lasting partnerships that have produced special places ranging from a luxury resort community on Kauai to a boating community on the California Delta.
